Iona Gilburt is an illustrator based in Cape Town, South Africa. She delights in intricate details, patterns, and asymmetry, and she likes to explore the blurring of inner and outer worlds. Until recently, she had focused primarily on human figures, but then a turtle encounter changed everything. Watching them swim at the aquarium, seeing how gracefully they soared and glided, stirred something new in her. She is now greatly inspired by nature, by its many expressions of growth, balance, change, and acceptance. Her illustrations are drawn by hand with pen (gel, metallic, ink, and milky pens). The details and lines are all drawn freehand (no rulers used).
