Kurt Waldo is an American abstract artist whose work is driven by emotion, texture, movement, and spontaneity. Born in 1953, Waldo developed a passion for art early in life, inspired by the abstract works displayed throughout his childhood home. By the age of nine, he had already begun painting, starting a lifelong exploration of color and expression. Influenced by the Impressionists, Expressionists, and Fauvist movements, Waldo found his strongest artistic connection in the American Abstract Expressionist movement of the 1950s and 60s. His paintings combine layered textures, bold gestures, and dynamic compositions that focus on feeling rather than representation. His work has been exhibited in galleries across California, featured on the CW series Gossip Girl, included in West Elm’s Summer 2013 catalog, and represented in HSN’s Smart Home 2022. As Waldo describes it: “People need analog art to cope with the digital world.”
